Legislative Leadership Killed Special Session on Campaign Finance Reform Quietly w/o Public Meetings

When we sent out our press release of May 22nd, calling on the Legislature to act on the Governor's Special Session on Campaign Finance Reform legislation (Common Cause in Wisconsin. Special session on campaign finance reform is only remaining legislative issue pending for 2008), we had a pretty good idea that when the Legislature adjourned on May 14th after finishing the budget repair bill and the Great Lakes Compact, that campaign finance reform was likely dead too.

Special Session on CFR is Only Remaining Leg. Business - Must Act Now

The Wisconsin Legislature, in a rare flurry of activity last week, completed action on the Special Session on Budget Repair and on the Special Session on the Great Lakes Compact.

The "regular" session of the 2007-2008 Wisconsin Legislature adjourned for the year in early March.

That means there is now only one unfinished piece of business still pending for the Wisconsin Legislature--however much they wish it would just go away--The Special Session on Campaign Finance Reform, called by Governor Jim Doyle last November 30th at CC/WI's insistence. It is still very much alive, even if nothing has happened thus far.
